It was as if we had finally won something worth shouting about .. and the term 'we' can so easily be used without the feelings of injustice or of a 'us' and a 'them'. There shall be partying with shouts of campeones in the streets and a overriding sense of Malaysia Boleh for next couple of days.
The news will be filled with the heralds of the triumph over an old foe and the rise of a young generation of warriors who fought ever so valiantly with their intrepid spirit and gumption against a tide of criticism and nay-sayers.
What had we won exactly? A gold in football the SEA games in Laos.
When did we achieve it? on17 Dec 2009
And how did we do it?
A deflection off the Viet defender in the dying minutes of a well fought match in my books... Sad to be that guy who unfortunately had the last touch to guide the ball past the keeper ( who probably was as dumbfounded as the rest of the team ). Yup, it was one of those games of monumental significance that had to be decided with a slice of good fortune.
It is worth noting that even when Nicol was the uber champ, or when Karamjit was the world champ, the level of enthusiasm was just not up to this level.
Come to think of it, how come liddis ha? Is it because:
- we all are die hard supporters of Malaysian football?
- deep down, everybody loves the story of an underdog defies all odds and ends up as winners? OR
- we just really love watching Malaysia being a success even if its just at the SEA level.

#2.. could be...Mas was not really considered a contender for the gold...

Congrats to our Malaysian footballers who managed to get everybody excited about winning something that everyone wanted but just didn't think it was possible.
